Experience the Real Classic Car: Rent a 1937 Packard in Las Vegas

Posted by: Brad Lithium  /  Category: Classics

We can talk all night about any given topic. Debate, discuss, and lay down the facts, but nothing beats experiencing the live thing. Nothing tops really letting the senses feel everything, or to hear, touch, smell, taste, and to see the real deal.

The axiom, “To see is to believe,” is what we get when go to museums or car shows to watch and be awed by sports, exotic, luxury or classic cars that are all in display. But with Las Vegas car rentals, the right thing to say is, “To sense is to believe.” The real experience and the awakening of the senses is the promise that Las Vegas car rentals bring you.

An even more appreciated point is the fact that with Vegas car rentals, we can still drive one of the leading luxury cars of the past that has now gone defunct. These luxury car models are not for sale anymore. But in Vegas, we are given the option to “rent” the experience and understand the reason why it was one of the leading luxury cars back then. Take the 1937 Packard 120 Convertible Sedan, for example the.

The 1937 Packard 120 convertible sedan was a car manufactured by the now defunct Packard automobile company. Packard automobile was founded by brothers James and William Packard, along with George Lewis Weiss in Ohio. James, a mechanical engineer, believed that they could build better horseless carriage than the Winton cars owned by Weiss. He had ideas for improvement on the design of current automobiles and by 1899 they were manufacturing vehicles. The company which they called the Ohio Automobile Company introduced a number of innovations such as a modern steering wheel and years later the 12-cylinder engine.

While other cars of that time like the Cole 30 & Colt Runabout were priced at US$ 1,500, the Oldsmobile runabout at US$ 650, the Western’s Gale Model A roadster was US$500 and the Black was US$375.The Packards were priced at US$ 2,600. Still, they had a following among the wealthy purchasers here in the United States and abroad.

While other car companies like Franklin, Marmon, Ruxton, Stutz, Stearns-Knight, Dusenberg and Peirce-Arrow crashed during the Great Depression, Packard survived by producing more affordable cars in the medium-price range. In 1935 the Packard 120 convertible Sedan came out. It was Packard’s first under-US$ 1,000 car.

The Packard 120 was produced from 1935-1937 and again on 1939-1941. It had numerous body styles that included convertibles, coupes and two-and four door configurations. The 1937 model had a “C” and “CD” trim levels. It had a wood-bodied station wagon, a touring sedan and a limousine body style. This model was equipped with a 282 cubic-inch motor with a 120 horsepower, dual side mounts and a heater.

It was after the second World War that Packard began to show signs of its end. It was at this time that Packard suffered a shortage of raw materials needed to manufacture automobiles. In 1959, the Packard nameplate was pulled out from the market. In 1995, there were plans for reviving the brand but the project was later abandoned and the world realized that 1959 was the last for the Packards to ever grace a showroom.

The 1937 Packard 120 Convertible Sedan remains to be one of the luxurious cars of history. And the thrill of riding it can still be experienced through renting it at one of the classic car rentals that Las Vegas offers. Don’t limit yourself. To see is to believe is not enough. Go for the full ride, experience to believe.

Classic Cars Become Focus of Edmunds.com’s 40th Year

Posted by: Brad Lithium  /  Category: Classics

Forty years is a long time. Many have changed. Many have started out their own businesses and many other businesses have closed or run out of funds to run it. However, there are still others that remain strong and remain at the top. One of these is Edmunds.com, one of the most respected sources of information on used cars, new vehicles, and automotive information.

Edmunds.com is celebrating their fortieth year in the business and as part of the whole deal, they are out to make reviews on the vehicles and cars that took great significance during their forty years in the business. For Karl Brauer, “The automotive industry and its products are dramatically different than they were when our company was founded in 1966. This milestone gives us a chance to reflect on the highlights of days gone by.”

Classic cars enthusiasts would surely be loving this. Primarily this is because when cars get out of style and when the cars are no longer in production, auto companies start to stop producing stuff for such models. Good thing, there are still good sources of information and outdated parts and accessories like Oldsmobile restoration parts in the market. Companies like this make sure that old and classic vehicles are not entirely forgotten and these cars could still be alive and kicking.

There are many definitions as per what a classic car should be. However, one of the main things that make a car a classic is that it is one-of-a-kind and is not so common anymore. Looking back and reading on classic cars is just like reliving the days when these cars were still roaming the streets and roads. It also gives a chance for the new generation to get to know the kind of cars and vehicles that used to own the highways in cities and countries.

Prestige in Hiring a Classic Car

Posted by: Brad Lithium  /  Category: Classics

Owning a classic car may not be so easy because they are expensive and can cost one a fortune. A classical car can be described as an older car, with the Classical Car Club of America stating that a car can only be classical if it was built in 1959 or earlier. For wedding transportation, wedding classic cars can be described as the classiest form of cars. Some of the wedding classic cars include Bentleys, Rolls-Royces Silver Clouds Mustangs and antique cars. The main obstacle however is that it may prove very difficult to acquire one during the wedding.

There has been an increase in the number of firms that offer exotics and classics in Europe and USA over the last decade. This may have been contributed by the fact that the demand for these types of vehicles is on increase as people want to make their vacations or events become more special. To allow the possible clients locate classical cars easily, a company that goes by the name Classic Car Hire World has been started.  The company has already made claims that it is the largest single web resource in renting classic, sports and exotic cars. Tony Merrigold is credited to have launched the Classic Car Hire World and also manages The Open Road Classic Car Hire in the United Kingdom. The site that he created has a directory of over one hundred and twenty classic rental firms in twelve countries and more than one thousand and two hundred cars.

By visiting the Classic Car Hire World, one will be able to find a rental company by car type, by country or by marques. When one looks over various marques or countries, it is easy to notice that European nations have more classic car sections while US has more exotics. For one wishing to secure a classic car for a wedding, he or she may need to consult a wedding transportation company that is available in many places. Unfortunately, many of these firms may only have two or even one classical car that they offer for rental. This means that anyone wishing to rent a classical car must do a thorough research in his or her locality so that he or she can make an advance booking. One should first consult the limousine rental firms in the locality and then visit as many of their websites as possible. One can also contact the antique and classic car rental clubs such as the Antique Automobile Club of America especially for the residents of US.

Some of the classic cars which generally may be available for a wedding transportation rental include Pontiac Bonneville, Essex Super Six, Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud and Ford Model T and Ford Model A. One should note that classic cars are generally smaller than stretch limos and in many cases they only accommodate the bride and the groom.  One is also never allowed to drive the car on his or her own for sentimentality and liability reasons. However, one has the option of hiring a limousine for the bridesmaids and the groomsmen.

Is the Subaru Outback a cool car for younger guys?

Posted by: Brad Lithium  /  Category: Other - Cars & Transportation

This past weekend I met up with some friends to play basketball and before the game we got into a debate about whether or not the Subaru Outback is a cool car for guys our age (25-30). 6 out of 10 felt very strongly that it was a very cool car for younger guys due to its outdoor capabilities (we all are very active, i.e. backpacking, surfing, etc.), while the other 4 kept saying that regardless of its outdoor capabilities it is still a wagon and uncool. What do you guys think?

How do I cool off a car with no a/c?

Posted by: Brad Lithium  /  Category: Other - Cars & Transportation

I drive an ’88 Mazda and I live in Nevada (read: hot, dry desert). Recently the temperatures have been 100+ and are supposed to be for the next while. My air conditioner causes my car to overheat, and the button is stuck in so not only can I not use the air conditioner, I can’t turn on the fan (because the air conditioner then turns on…following?). How can I keep cool inside my car? Rolling down all the windows and driving on the freeway only helps minimally, as it’s just 100 degree air blowing through which does little to cool me off :[
